The Heat Is On to Increase Alzheimer's Research

The August Congressional recess means that your elected officials will be back in their home districts and available to their constituents. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to let them know how important it is to increase spending on Alzheimer’s research.

Call LegislatorAs you know Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease for the more than 5 million people who are living with it today.  Flash forward to mid-century and that number will increase to 16 million unless a major research breakthrough happens.

Science is closing in on ways to treat and prevent this terrible disease. But the federal government is cutting back on its commitment to funding for Alzheimer's research. Since 2003, federal funding for research at NIH has steadily declined, both in real dollars and in keeping pace with medical research inflation. It is simply foolish that funding for research is diminishing at the same time that scientific breakthroughs are within reach. The only way to combat Alzheimer’s disease is to accelerate the investment in medical research.

Let your voice be heard. Tell your Senators and Members of Congress that when they return to Washington DC to vote on the pending Labor/HHS Appropriations legislation, we must have an additional $125 million for Alzheimer’s research.
