Legacy of Love: Second Annual African American Caregiver Conference
African Americans are at greater risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease than the general population. African Americans experience a higher rate of vascular disease and type 2 diabetes, both of which significantly increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s. Within the next 30 years, the number of African Americans entering the age of risk will increase from 3.5 million to almost 7 million. Join the Alzheimer’s Association on October 13, 2007 at the Second Annual African American Caregiver Forum, Continuing the Legacy of Love. This important event will highlight the unique concerns of African Americans impacted by Alzheimer’s disease. Two hundred expected attendees will participate in the day long event from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at New Holly Gathering Hall, 7054 32nd Ave. S in Seattle. Dr. Lauren Bonner Lee, Alzheimer’s researcher and clinician, will be featured as the keynote speaker. Formerly with University of Washington Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Dr. Lee is a well-respected figure in Seattle’s African American community. The forum will present a panel of African American family caregivers who will share their experiences caring for loved ones with dementia, a luncheon, and a discussion regarding caregiver self-care. Be there as a participant, vendor or sponsor as we give recognition to the incredible day-to-day efforts of African American family caregivers. Attendance is free at this great event.
