New Video Training Program for Feeding Assistants Caresource is pleased to introduce its newest training program for feeding assistants. May I Help You? was developed in cooperation with the American Health Care Association as the companion to their training manual Assisted Dining:The Role and Skills of Feeding Assistants. May I Help You? is a three part training program that includes:
Program I Getting Started (20 minutes)
This portion of the program introduces feeding assistants (and those in training to become feeding assistants) to "must have" background information they need in order to work safely and effectively in a nursing facility. Coverage includes: - What a feeding assistant does
- Working with older adults
- Residents' rights
- Spotting and reporting changes
- Preventing the spread of infection
Program II-Proper Feeding Techniques (18 minutes) This portion of the program presents the specific job responsibilities of a feeding assistant and how to do the job the right way. Topics include: - Preparing to serve the meal
- Serving the meal
- Residents who need cueing and other special help
- Making mealtimes a pleasant, social experience for residents
Program III-Problem Behavior and Emergencies (14 minutes)
This portion of the program introduces feeding assistants to skills they will need to be ready for those times when things don't go as planned; for example, when: - A resident begins to choke
- A resident won't eat
- A resident is agitated or abusive
- A resident falls
- There's a fire or other emergency in the facility
