Aging in Stride is a valuable tool for community education and outreach, for both seniors and caregivers. Because Aging in Stride is designed to fill the tremendous need that exists today for practical, easy-to-understand information on what it means to age successfully, several organizations have already taken advantage of this opportunity: Dennis Zegarac, Executive Director of Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging in Burlington, IA, recently held a caregiver seminar with the theme of "Recharge, Renew, Bloom." Participants received a canvas tote bag, a bedding plant, and a copy of Aging in Stride. Family caregivers, often weighed down with their busy lives, don't have time to wade through an overwhelming amount of information. And many are dealing with or facing their own aging issues, which makes Aging in Stride especially valuable, as it is suitable for a continuum of older adults from healthy to frail, from 55 up, as well as for their family and friends. Reports Zegarac, "The book is a great resource for empowering family caregivers both spouses and children to find out about what services are available. It also contains plenty of information about every aspect of aging." Kelly Butts, Development Officer for Southwest 8 Senior Services, located in Council Bluffs, IA, also uses Aging in Stride in caregiver education and outreach. She says, "The book is geared toward a wide range of seniors people in their 70s and older, as well as Baby Boomers who are using it as they care for aging parents, and as they themselves enter their senior years." Dyann Bowers of Area XIV Agency of Aging, Creston, IA, also distributed Aging in Stride for the first caregiver conference her agency held. "Participants loved the book," says Bowers. "We also use Aging in Stride to increase awareness of the caregiver program and our agency. We place an informational sticker on the inside cover and distribute copies to doctors' offices and public libraries throughout the region." She notes that some local newspapers also make note of the donation to libraries, which promotes further awareness of her agency. The price of quantity purchases for community education and outreach is only $8.95 plus shipping and handling, with a minimum purchase of 10 books. The books can be custom labeled for your organization or program. For more information, please contact Connie Parsons at 800-448-5213 or connie@caresource.com.
