Top Five Things to Consider Before Launching a Facebook Page

Whether you are just launching your first Facebook page or you are fine-tuning your current page, social media experts agree that it is best practice to think through several key points with members of your organization.

  1. Why do you want a Facebook page?
Think about the objectives and goals for your Facebook page. Do you want to increase traffic to your website? Do you want to increase your online brand awareness? Do you want to offer resources to your community?

  2. Who is the audience for your Facebook page?
Do you want to attract the adult children of your clients?  Or are you looking for potential volunteers?  Determine who the people are that you want to connect with, and then offer the kind of content that will be of interest to them.

  3. Who will be in charge of the content and monitoring of the page?
Too many pages are created, and then abandoned. Identify who will take care of the page and clarify how many hours they will allocate to posting new content and following up on comments. Will one person be in charge, or will it be a committee?

  4. How will you monitor the Facebook page’s success?
Will you ask new clients how they heard about your services? Will you monitor how many new fans you attract?

  5. What is the plan to deal with unanticipated activity on the page?
Have a plan of action in case your page attracts foes in addition to fans and they post negative comments. Merely deleting negative comments may not be the best strategy.
