Heartland Collaborative -- Collaborating on a Redesign

The Heartland Regional Genetics and Newborn Screening Collaborative website www.heartlandcollaborative.org has a brand new look! The new website developed by IlluminAge Communication Partners went live on August 1. The Collaborative serves Iowa, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.  Its members include individuals and organizations who have a stake in clinical genetics and newborn screening services, including state agencies, health care providers, families, and other organizations.

A Collaboration in Itself

The redesign was a true team effort. The new website was developed by a regional volunteer ad hoc committee with input from the Heartland Advisory Board, Lay Advocate Work Group, and many other collaborative members, with project leader Kyna Byerly acting as liaison between the Collaborative work group and IlluminAge design team leader, Christian Halsell.

“We’re excited to now have password protected areas for work groups, so they’ll be able to work collaboratively on projects and documents before they’re ready for wider circulation,” says Lori Williamson, Heartland’s Project Co-Director and Manager. “And our new eNewsletter, also created by IlluminAge, is another tool that should make it easier for all of us to stay informed and connected to the work of the Collaborative.”

The Results

New resources and functionality were added for Collaborative members, work groups, friends and referral sources, researchers, and the public.  Key features include:

  • Centers for work groups to share information and meeting notes
  • An attractive online newsletter to replace an existing print newsletter program
  • Support, advocacy, and screening services locators
  • Interactive calendar
