Resident Spotlight on Pauline Slattery
Pauline Slattery was born on August 5, 1927 in Baltimore. She was raised with two sisters and one brother, and attended school all the way up to junior high. After junior high, she decided school wasn’t for her and started working full time at her father’s restaurant. Pauline was a waitress at the New Coney Island Café for a couple of years, and met her first husband, George, at her dad’s restaurant. They fell in love and got married. They had a daughter named Paulette, and were married for 13 years. While she was married to George, Pauline worked at Esskay Meatpacking. She says she was the first one to volunteer for layoffs in the fall because it was so cold in the factory! After Pauline and George parted ways, she took up waitressing again, this time in Essex. Around this time she met John, her second husband. Pauline has one granddaughter and one great-grandson, and her hobbies include watching T.V. and going out to eat. She used to love to drive her car and spend time at the beach. Ms. Slattery is a very independent person who strives to be a good honest person and mother!
