Valentine’s Day One theory about the origin of Valentine’s Day is dated back during ancient Roman times. A day was dedicated for young men to place the names of the single women into a box and randomly draw a partner. The couples that were matched in this way were considered betrothed and expected to stay together for a period of time. Glad times have changed. Love Love is a many splendored thing; It makes us happy, it makes us sing. Love is a star that shines so bright, A moment to remember on a Valentine’s night. Love is chocolate drops, hugs, and kisses, Given as gifts to the Mr. and Mrs. Love one another with laughter and cheer, On Valentine’s Day and throughout the year. Ash Wednesday In Western Christianity, Ash Wednesday is the first day of the season of lent. Ashes obtained from burned palm branches of the previous Palm Sunday are blessed and placed on the forehead of the believers as a sign of repentance. The Chinese New Year falls on Thursday, February 7 this year. Celebrations involve the color red because it symbolizes fire. According to ancient Chinese legends, red drives bad luck away. President’s Day President’s Day is viewed as a holiday that pays tribute to Washington, Lincoln, and all the Presidents that have served our country. Wishing all a very Happy Birthday! Black History Month Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson is known as the “Father of Black History.” He was born in Virginia to Anne Eliza Riddle and James Henry Woodson on December 19, 1875. Carter’s parents were former slaves. Woodson completed several degrees and eventually obtained his Ph.D. in history from Harvard University. He became the second African American to achieve this great accomplishment. Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson dedicated his entire life to researching and publishing information on black history to educate the world. Thank you, Dr. Woodson!
