New Year’s Day 2009
New Year’s Day is one of the oldest holiday celebrations, dating back to four thousand years ago to ancient Babylon. One of the traditions was to return borrowed farm equipment to its original owner. Today, the top New Year’s Resolutions are: get in shape, lose weight, quit smoking, reduce debt, save money, get organized, and go back to school. At Lorien, we will be celebrating New Year’s Day at 2:00 p.m. in the Ice Cream Parlor with our favorite entertainer, Gary Diamond. Everyone is welcome to celebrate the New Year with us. The more, the merrier!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
We celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday on January 19 to honor and focus on his prolific contributions to social justice and the many inroads made for civil rights for African Americans. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s greatness also came from his willingness to sacrifice his life for the cause of freedom. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Freedom has always been an expensive thing. History is fit testimony to the fact that freedom is rarely gained without sacrifice and self-denial.” Let’s spend this day honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. and everything that was accomplished through his life.
