Message from the President
Beth Meyer-Arnold
Leadership...Judgment...Experience... These are words that have been thrown around the political scene the last few days. The country is looking for a President that has these qualities. They want the candidate to understand the citizens, to speak to the issues, to make their financial picture better! Theses are the very same challenges that we face in adult day services. NADSA takes its mission very seriously: to provide advocacy, education, and technical assistance, research and communications services to its members to advance the quality and scope of adult day services. And to do this we must have leadership. Leaders who use good judgment. Leaders who have experience, who can understand the very important issues facing the adult day services industry. On July 31 and Aug 1, 2008, 10 members of your NADSA board flew into Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for a retreat. We had a commitment to look at the critical issues facing NADSA and to determine what areas needed immediate focus and put together an action plan that would immediately move us forward. We did that. You have chosen your leaders and I am very happy to report to you—they are worth it! (See the photos at right for some scenes from the retreat.) We have begun a campaign to work on four key areas of focus: - Develop Leadership—to carry us into the new generation of Adult Day Services and the administrative infrastructure (technology and policy and procedure) to support them.
- Increase Membership—we are working toward the day that every single day center in the United States is a member of NADSA!
- Develop Products and Services of Value to Members—we hope that we will have tools, products, research, and information that you can get with a click of your mouse from NADSA, which you can’t get easily from anywhere else!
- Ensure Financial Resources to Achieve Goals—NADSA is working on developing and cementing relationships with business, government and academics that will provide win-win situations for them and NADSA members.
I’m very excited about this plan for the newNADSA and you will hear much more about this in the coming months. Please give me a little literary license as I steal a phrase from a very famous person to challenge you, as members of NADSA: Ask not What NADSA Can do for YOU, but what YOU Can do for NADSA…. - Every member—get a member
- Register for the annual conference
- Visit the website weekly
- Join a committee; email info@nadsa.org and ask where and how you can help!
Thank you again, for the privilege of serving you as chair and for the amazing experience of working with the other NADSA board members!
