________________________

Did you know that there are 50 million family caregivers in the U.S., and the value of the care they provide now equals over $375 billion annually?

November is National Family Caregivers Month. In this issue of Seniors Digest, read about some ideas from the National Family Caregivers Association for acknowledging those who do so much for senior and disabled loved ones. And be sure to sign the petition for a U.S. postage stamp commemorating caregivers!

Also in this issue of Seniors Digest…

  • ADS Planner Karen Winston concludes her two-part article on end-of-life care by sharing some stories that remind us about how important it is to make our wishes known—in writing, and through discussions with family and healthcare providers.

  • Part A, Part B, Part C, Part D…to help make sense of the complex Medicare system, Social Security Public Affairs Specialist Kirk Larson presents a concise overview of the four “parts” that make up the program.

  • "Old and tired"? A new study suggests that anergia—a lack of energy—may not be "just part of growing older."

  • Save the date for the "Aging with Intention" seminars, a new book club for seniors, and more!

  • For American Diabetes Month, try your hand at the "Managing Diabetes" wordfind.

For More Information…

See "Links You Can Use" for local websites that can direct you to services for seniors. And check out SeniorsDigest.org, our national companion website, which includes the Online Information Center, where you will find resources and information about issues of interest to older adults and their families.

We hope you will refer to our electronic pages often—to obtain advice, to learn of new and exciting services, and to offer us your constructive feedback.

Read Seniors Digest and tell us what you think. We are here to help.
