Operation Front Line Cooking Demos Thursdays, September 9, October 14, and November 18, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Location: Central Area Senior Center, 500 30th Ave. S, Seattle Each of these fun cooking classes will feature an easy, tasty, low-cost and healthy recipe using seasonal produce. There will be a sample-size tasting of the recipe. Learn tips for how to cook for one, how to cook vegetables in the microwave (and make them taste good) and other topics. The classes will be lead by a local chef volunteer. These classes are designed for everyone, including people with diabetes. Space is limited LGBT Elder Summit Thursday, September 16, 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Location: ACRS, 3639 MLK, Jr. Way S., Seattle The summit will be a discussion, think tank and learning experience to make services for LGBTQ elders in all cultures accessible and safe in health care and social services, housing, and all walks of life. Keynote speaker will be Grethe Cammermeyer, and there will be two panels of community, professionals and funders discussing what they have been doing and what we hope to do in the future. The event is an effort by the Senior Housing and Supportive Services partnership, whose purpose is to increase the awareness of the need for housing to meet the needs of elders through the lifespan; develop the connections to enable necessary supportive services delivery; and strengthen residents' ability to age in the place they call home.
