Man working on laptopSponsored by the Seattle Commission for People with Disabilities, the Alliance of People with Disabilities, the State Independent Living Council, and the University Heights Community Center Association, this non-partisan event is an opportunity to meet with candidates for the State legislature and discuss issues of concern to the disability community. 2010 Senior Lobby Annual Fall Conference

Wednesday, October 13, 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Location: DoubleTree Hotel, Sea-Tac

This annual conference is sponsored by the Washington State Senior Citizens LobbyThis year, the focus of the conference will cover topics such as Health Care Implementation, Medicare, State Budget Issues and Initiatives. The agenda will include several well known speakers and morning and afternoon forums.

Operation Front Line Cooking Classes

Tuesdays, November 2, 9 and 16, 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Location: Third Place Commons, Stadler Room, Upper Level, Lake Forest Park Towne Centre, 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park

Each of these fun cooking classes will feature an easy, tasty, low-cost and healthy recipe using seasonal produce.

November 2: Healthy & Seasonal Cooking & Shopping Techniques for Two
November 9: Healthy Harvest Cooking: Techniques for Cooking Seasonal Farmers Market Treasures
November 16: Holiday & Harvest Cooking for One

 
There will be a sample-size tasting of the recipe. These classes are designed for everyone, including people with diabetes. Please contact the Shoreline Senior Center at (206) 365-1536 to register. Sack lunches will be provided to seniors 60+ who register in advance.

Aging Your Way: Conversations for Community Change

Wednesday, October 20, 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Northgate Community Center, 10510 5th Ave. NE, Seattle
 

Baby boomers and other younger-thinking older adults are already redesigning their communities to support them as they age. Senior Services is bringing community gatherings to neighborhoods around King County.

Join us at an event in your neighborhood to develop your vision and ideas, and work on implementing them! Jim Diers, community development expert and professional facilitator, leads participants in identifying what they care about and creating their vision of what their community will need to look like. Action teams are formed and people are empowered to use their skills, knowledge and passion to make their vision a reality. Overcoming Barriers: Vulnerable Adult Abuse Conference

Thursday and Friday, October 28-29
Location: Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, 19010 First Ave. S, Burien

Sponsored by the King County Prosecutors Office, the 7th annual event features Bonnie Brandl, Senior Project Coordinator for the National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life (NCALL), and Marie-Therese Connolly, Senior Scholar at Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Former Coordinator of Justice Department's Elder Justice and Nursing Home Initiative. African American Caregivers Forum
