SHIBA logoMedicare Advantage Plans/Part D Open Enrollment runs from October 15 through December 7, 2011 for Medicare beneficiaries who want to join, switch or drop a Medicare Part D Drug Plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) provides general information about premiums and benefits for each Part D and Medicare Advantage plan at www.cms.gov along with the list of plans available in 2012. Questions? Attend an enrollment clinic and gain unbiased information in a face-to-face meeting with a State Health Insurance Benefits Advisor (SHIBA). Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a free, six-week workshop that provides unpaid family caregivers with the skills and confidence needed to better care for themselves while caring for others. Travel Ambassador Training

This training session provides the knowledge and skills necessary for agency staff to become certified as a Community Travel Ambassador in King County. Trainings consist of a minimum of three hours of classroom instruction, focused on a specific population—people with disabilities, older adults, or low-income individuals. It provides a broad knowledge of available local transportation services that help ensure quality of life for people with disabilities. The Seattle Mayor's Office for Senior Citizens invites older jobseekers to participate in a workshop focused on job searches, resumes, cover letters, interviewing, networking, and LinkedIn for the older job seeker. On November 16, Ms. Beverley Kashino, Human Resources Director at YMCA of Greater Seattle, will discuss how nonprofits hire and how to prepare for and apply for work in the nonprofit world. Senior Coffee Hour with Dr. James Leverenz

The Mayor's Office for Senior Citizens' November coffee hour features Dr. James Leverenz,  Professor of Neurology and Psychiatric and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. His research focuses on dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson disease, Lewy body dementia, Down syndrome, and frontotemporal dementia. The coffee hour is open to the public.
