Innovative Fitness Program Has Seattle Roots

image

"This program is my lifeline. I came here on the recommendation of physical therapy while undergoing treatment for knee problems, a broken ankle and arthritis. The improvement has been remarkable. I can once again walk two or three miles with no difficulty...in fact, I am in better shape than some of my friends who are 15 years younger." Lifetime Fitness participant, 69

Maybe you've been putting off beginning a fitness program because you...

...are unsure what exercise is right for you
...are afraid of injury
...don't want to pay expensive health club rates
...are afraid you won't be able to keep up
...want to work out with people in your age group

Lifetime Fitness Program

The Lifetime Fitness Program (LFP) is now available at numerous sites in the Seattle/King County area. LFP, developed by a partnership of Senior Services of Seattle/King County, Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound and the University of Washington Health Promotion Research Center, was recently named one of ten exemplary physical activity programs for older adults in the U.S. by the National Council on Aging.

The LFP program is geared especially toward seniors, and is appropriate for people of almost any physical condition, including those with a wide range of physical disabilities.

Unlike many exercise classes, Lifetime Fitness Program was carefully based on scientific research. Studies show that participants have enjoyed improved health and performance, including...

  • Enhanced cardio-respiratory health
  • Increased strength
  • Improved balance and flexibility
  • Decreased pain
  • Reduced depression
  • Fewer falls

Increased sociability is another plus: LFP is a great opportunity to get out of the house and come together in a positive atmosphere. Program participants say that one of the top benefits of the program is that it's fun! Click here to read more about the research findings.

What's Included?

Most Lifetime Fitness Program participants attend three times a week, and enjoy a mix of activities, including...
