Universal Design and Accessibility

The City of Seattle Human Services website includes information on Universal Design.

Last fall, the City co-sponsored an "Aging in Place" resource fair at the Seattle Center. The Seattle Times article about the event includes a good look at the Universal Design concept and details.

The National Resource Center on Supportive Housing and Home Modification (www.HomeMods.org) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promote aging in place and independent living for persons of all ages and abilities.

The AARP website's Home Design section focuses on Universal Design and accessibility.

Alternative Transportation Solutions

See the Senior Services of Seattle/King County website for information about transportation

The Washington State Department of Transportation has information about public transportation.

King County's Metro Online website includes a handy "trip planner." Also see the Sound Transit Find A Ride.org site.

The AARP website offers resources for older drivers, including the "When to Stop Driving" checklist to help older adults determine whether driving is still safe; also includes suggestions for family members, and alternative transportation options.
