Stepping Out for Mature Adults: Be Healthy, Walk Safely is a website from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that includes articles on pedestrian safety, incorporating walking into your everyday schedule, and staying motivated. Home Safety and Modification The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers the colorful guide "Check for Safety: a Home Fall Prevention Checklist for Older Adults," which you can view online or order. May 14-20 is National Nursing Home Week The American Health Care Association's LongTermCareLiving.com offers information for consumers about choosing, living in and paying for a nursing home. If you need to select a nursing facility for yourself or a family member, the Medicare website features Nursing Home Compare, a tool for finding and comparing nursing homes in the area. The Washington Healthcare Association website offers a directory of nursing facilities in the state, as well as information and online brochures. The National Long Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center offers information about serving as or contacting a long-term care ombudsman.
