Location: Tukwila Community Center

Aging and Disability Services (ADS) is presenting Focus on the Future Forums to inform the development of the next four year plan. The Area Plan on Aging for King County, 2008-2011, serves as the framework for our work as an Area Agency on Aging and establishes our major goals and objectives for the next four years.

One of our goals as an Area Agency on Aging is to offer services which increase the independence of frail older adults and adults with disabilities. The majority of older adults want to remain in their homes with as much independence for as long as possible. Yet when chronic conditions lead to disability and limitations of activities, many people must rely on family or paid caregivers to provide assistance.

Please join us on March 15th to help us explore the following issues:

  • How can we develop programs that maximize independence and promote well-being for both the caregiver and the care recipient?
  • What are the unique concerns for seniors with dementia or memory loss and their caregivers?
  • How can we finance a system that encourages older adults to remain in their homes?

Featured speakers include Nora Gibson, Director of Elderhealth Northwest, and Patricia Hunter, Program and Policy Manager for the Alzheimer’s Association of Western Washington. Moderated by Dick Sugiyama, Case Management Director for Aging & Disability Services.

In addition to the forums, ADS is conducting a community survey to gather feedback for the Area Plan. Anyone may participate in the survey; however, we especially encourage residents who are age 60 and older or disabled to respond. Ideas from seniors, their families and professionals are very important in the planning process. We want to hear from you!
