Aging and Disability Services Presents "Focus on the Future Forums"
Karen Winston, ADS Planner
Aging and Disability Services (ADS) is presenting Focus on the Future Forums to inform the development of the next four year plan. The plan, known as the Area Plan on Aging for King County, 2008-2011, serves as the framework for our work as an Area Agency on Aging and establishes our major goals and objectives for the next four years. There’s No Place Like Home: Senior Housing April 5, 2007 10:00 a.m. to noon Location: Bellevue City Hall, Rm. 108 450 - 110th NE, Room 108, Bellevue Most Americans will remain in their own homes and communities as they grow older. As part of our goal to create vibrant and elder-friendly communities in King County, ADS will address the demand for affordable and accessible housing at our April 5 forum. Some of the issues we will explore include: - How can we ensure that the availability of affordable housing keeps pace with the growing demand?
- What options are available—public housing, assisted living, adult family homes, and more?
- How can we design housing to incorporate flexible features that promote independent living through one’s lifetime—Universal Design?
Featured speakers include: Tom Tierney, Director of Seattle Housing Authority; Shirley Tomika, member of the Northwest Universal Design Coalition; Julie Peterson, Director of Assisted Living & Senior Housing with the Washington Association of Housing & Services for the Aging; and David Okimoto of United Way of King County as the moderator. This forum will focus on both the individual needs of older adults in preparing for a disaster and preparing communities to respond quickly and effectively. Speakers will include community leaders and disaster preparedness experts. All facilities are accessible. For information about the forums or special accommodations, contact Karen Winston, Area Plan Lead Staff, at 206-684-0706.
