The 2008 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program will begin its voucher application process this month. The program provides a voucher for eligible seniors (low-income, ages 60+) to use at Farmers Markets throughout King County. Application forms will be available beginning April 21 through all Senior Information & Assistance (I&A) programs and for downloading on the Aging & Disability Services web site. Applications will be accepted through May 21. Because of the limited number available, vouchers will be distributed by a random lottery selection among the total applications received. All applicants will receive a letter in June informing them of their status. Tuesday, May 20 8:30 - 11:00 a.m. Marriott SpringHill Suites, Downtown Seattle The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division will host a discussion on the topic of accessibility in the construction of multi-family housing. The program, which is free and includes breakfast, is open to building professionals, including architects and civil engineers, as well as developers, government officials, and advocates for individuals with disabilities. The forum will educate housing professionals on their legal obligations under the federal Fair Housing Act’s accessibility requirements and encourage dialogue among the participants. The program focuses on cooperative approaches to achieving compliance and celebrates partnerships that have produced accessible multi-family housing in which everyone profits—developers and consumers alike.
