Welcome to the June 2010 Seniors Digest!

The calendar tells us it's June, but so far the weather looks more like April! Hopefully we will get some sunshine soon, so we can get a little extra exercise outdoors.

In this issue of Seniors Digest, local experts offer information on several common challenges for older adults. Dr. Laura Baker, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the UW Medical Center, describes the sometimes subtle changes that might indicate a senior is developing Alzheimer's disease or other dementia. Karen Kent of Evergreen Healthcare examines the issue of hoarding. And if you like CitySearch or Yelp, you'll love learning about BluePath, a new interactive consumer website that lets people with mobility challenges see what other consumers say about area eateries, shops and other venues.

Also in this issue:

  • Social Security's Kirk Larson tells us how easy it is to apply for Medicare online

  • Katy G. Wilkens of Northwest Kidney Centers gives advice for making a healthier sandwich

  • "Father's Day Health Tips" provides a quick rundown of health screenings men should have

  • Give your brain a workout and learn how to make your house more accessible with this month's puzzle, "Home Modifications."
