Vietnamese Senior Association meal

Participants in the Vietnamese Senior Association "Food and Fitness" program discover that good nutrition and staying physically active are two important ways to support optimum aging!

In Seattle, we are so proud of our vibrant, diverse population. This month, we are focusing on some of the multicultural aspects of growing older. Some elements of healthy aging are universal, yet we each experience aging in our own unique way, influenced by our individual experiences and by the tradition in which we grew up.

Learn how Aging and Disability Services (ADS) has partnered with Seattle Parks and Recreation to present the Food and Fitness Program, which encourages good nutrition and physical activities in seniors from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

Also in this issue, Rowena Rye of the Alzheimer's Association discusses some of the concerns faced by African American caregivers whose loved one has dementia. Learn about the upcoming African American Caregivers Forum, where participants will find practical solutions to caring for their loved ones, as well as updates on the latest research.

For many Seattle seniors, the love of multicultural experiences is enhanced by traveling out of the country. Karen Winston, ADS planner, reports on tips for safe travel abroad from the Bureau of Consular Affairs.
