Seniors and Computers

If you or someone you know has a disability (visual, hearing, mobility, language or learning), the Microsoft Accessibility website provides in-depth information about the accessibility of PC-based hardware and software, including free step-by-step tutorials and resource guides. The site also offers "Tips for the Awkward Age of Computing" a humorous and informative guide for Baby Boomers and older who just need a little help, illustrated by local cartoonist Brian Bassett.

For Apple/MAC users, information is also available on the Apple Accessibility website.

Holiday Events

A full calendar of special holiday events many free can be found on the websites of The Seattle Times and The Seattle Post Intelligencer. (Free registration may be required.)

"Got Caffeine?" According to The National Sleep Foundation, 85 percent of all Americans consume caffeine. So with Seattle being called "The Coffee Capital of America," it's a good guess that we take in quite a bit! You might be surprised how much caffeine you consume in a day even if you aren't a coffee drinker. Try the NSF's Caffeine Calculator to find out.

All About Dietary Supplements The U.S. Food and Drug Administration website features Tips for Older Dietary Supplement Users, with information about making the decision to take vitamins and other supplements, selecting good quality vitamins, and knowing which supplements are a rip-off and which ones are even dangerous.
