May is Older Americans Month 2006! This year's theme is "Choices for Independence." Her first job in Seattle was as a nurse's aide. At her supervisor's urging, Rose went to college, studied to become a surgical technician and worked for twenty years at that profession. At that time, paying for commercial electricians was not a problem, but now it is no longer feasible on her fixed income. She recalls one winter afternoon when she lost her heat. She called the Minor Home Repair program. They promptly sent a Repair Specialist who fixed the problem for a small labor charge and the cost of the materials. Rose says the kindness of the workers makes her feel warm all over.
