Multi-Family Housing Access Forum Tuesday, May 20 The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division will host a discussion on the topic of accessibility in the construction of multi-family housing. The program, which is free and includes breakfast, is open to building professionals, including architects and civil engineers, as well as developers, government officials, and advocates for individuals with disabilities. The forum will educate housing professionals on their legal obligations under the federal Fair Housing Act’s accessibility requirements and encourage dialogue among the participants. The program focuses on cooperative approaches to achieving compliance and celebrates partnerships that have produced accessible multi-family housing in which everyone profits—developers and consumers alike. Dementia Partnership to Screen "Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter" Thursday, May 22, 2008 Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter is an Academy Award nominated film chronicling the various stages of a mother’s Alzheimer’s disease and the evolution of a daughter’s response to the illness. Neither depressing nor medical, it is a life-affirming exploration of family relations, aging and change, the meaning of memory, and love. The short documentary will be followed by a question and answer session with an information panel. The event is especially appropriate for family members who are caring for a loved one with dementia. Attendees will learn about a range of free services for people with memory problems and their family caregivers. Lifting the Clouds: Addressing Depression in Older Adults Friday, May 30 Washington Alliance for Healthy Aging (WAHA) presents the 6th Annual Healthy Aging Summit.
