A grassroots community is now forming in Northeast Seattle that will be dedicated to insuring that as we grow older, we can continue to live in our own home, in the neighborhood we love. It's called the Village Concept and is an innovative, new approach to aging in place that is inspiring persons 50 plus to organize, incorporate, and take charge. These "virtual villages" build community and help reduce social isolation and are modeled after Beacon Hill Village in Boston.

Instructor Training for SAIL Program: Stay Active and Independent for Life

January – March  2009

Northwest Orthopedic Institute is conducting a free online course to train new instructors for the Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) program. SAIL is a strength, balance and fitness class for older adults. The 10-week pilot course starts the week of January 5, 2009 and ends the week of March 17, 2009. Course content has been developed to contain all information currently included in the 2-day, 16 hour SAIL instructor training, and includes:

  • 2-4 lectures per week (in Word format, 1-4 pages each)
  • Video of proper exercise form and actual classes integrated into the lectures
