The 2009 Annual Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging Conference

The 36th Annual SE4A Conference was held September 27-30, 2009 in Charleston, South Carolina. Each year SE4A honors individuals, businesses and organizations that have given their time and energies to making life better for older adults, caregivers and persons with disabilities. Kentucky and the Louisville Metro area were honored to receive two awards for outstanding efforts.

John Yarmuth accepts the SE4A Aging Impact Award at the recent SE4A Conference

SE4A presented the first annual Aging Impact Award to three public officials who have made significant impact on the quality of life for older adults. The Awards are presented for work at the local, state and national levels.

The National level was awarded to Congressman John Yarmuth for his long support and advocacy for social issues affecting older persons through legislation. He sponsored the Elderserve Act, which establishes programs to facilitate and coordinate Emergency Crisis Response Team programs to provide short-term emergency services for victims of elder abuse. He has also supported increased funding for Older Americans Act programs and supports healthcare reform that will ensure better access to medications for seniors.
