On May 20, 2011, KIPDA hosted a Centenarian Celebration which was one of many events held across the KIPDA region in recognition of Older Americans Month.

The older adults in our region, particularly our centenarians, have made a great and lasting impact on all of our communities. Without the hard work and tenacity of our older adult population, we would not be where we are today.

The Masonic Homes Bell Choir provided entertainment for the event. Several of the honorees for the day are active members of the Bell Choir.

KIPDA received information that approximately 50 centenarians reside in our region. Fifteen centenarians and their families were able to join KIPDA to honor the many virtues each individual possesses, and to recognize them for their contributions to our communities. Among the honorees, many professions were represented, such as musicians, homemakers, engineers, teachers, salespersons, seamstresses, nurses, farmers, bricklayers and managers.

KIPDA, along with State and Federal officials, recognized each centenarian with a personalized plaque, Senate Proclamation, and Kentucky Colonels certificate.

The celebration was an opportunity for the centenarians to meet each other and to entertain us all with their wonderful stories and well-earned wisdom.
