November A Time for Thanks
Prosperity Partners
Two important holidays in November focus on taking time for gratitude: Veterans Day We celebrate Veterans Day in honor of the soldiers who gave their lives to protect our American freedoms. World War I ended in 1918 when an armistice was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month stating that the war was over. November 11th was declared Armistice Day by President Wilson. When the people heard of the war's end, they celebrated in the streets with whistles and horns and songs. At eleven o'clock, Americans observed a moment of silence to honor all of the soldiers who died at war. After WWII, the Vietnam and Korean Wars, the holiday's name was changed to Veterans Day, which is still celebrated on November 11th. Thanksgiving Day The first Thanksgiving feast was a time of celebration and prayer that took place in 1621, the Pilgrims' first year in America. The Pilgrims and Indians celebrated their plentiful crop with a three-day feast of various animals and fowl with fruit and vegetables from the fall harvest. The holiday's observance went almost forgotten until the 1800's when it was celebrated in September or October. In 1941, Congress declared Thanksgiving a national holiday, to take place on the fourth Thursday in November. Prosperity Partners, Inc. 800-868-6230 JasonR@ppicash.com
