How Saying "I Love You" Can Mean More $ in Your Pocket
Prosperity Partners
It's February, the infamous month of Love and possessor of Valentine's Day. Most people take some extra time this month to acknowledge the relationships in their lives. You may be thinking: what do my personal relationships have to do with this newsletter? Just some juicy ideas to spice up your (um) love life! Well, maybe "love life" is too strong a word, but the relationships that could always use a little extra love and attention are the people who protect your money. Romancing your attorney, financial planner, tax accountant and other lenders doesn't sound nearly as interesting, I know, but I'm sure they'd love a heart-shaped box of chocolates and long-stemmed roses. Seriously? Okay, maybe not...but attorneys, CFPs, CPAs, your mortgage company...they are people just like you and me. And what makes a difference in your day could also make a positive impact on their day. When I stopped to think about it, I realized I had no idea what my attorney, CFP or the lady at my mortgage company really want, other than to have a great day at work. So, to be sure, I asked each of them! My attorney said that communication while doing business is truly appreciated. It can be frustrating to spend your day tracking down a client who is difficult to get in touch with. Just the fact that I asked left him with a big smile on his face. So be available. Sandra at the mortgage company said that a thank you would mean everything to her. My favorite CFP is Brian Watson, who writes articles for this newsletter. I asked him to write this month's article on how he would like to be appreciated, so read more about that in "How to Love Your CFP." The people in your life who provide a service to you just want to feel appreciated. Tell them that you appreciate them for doing their job well by making a simple phone call or sending a handwritten card or note. After all, they protect your money. Those are relationships that deserve to be acknowledged. When people know we care, they are more likely to go the extra mile.
