Cascade Market: Lots of Vendors, Pasta and Pizza
Even though the crisp snap of autumn is in the air, September is still a great month to capture the bounty of fresh fruit and produce at the Cascade Farmer’s Market, Featuring Pike Place Market Express. Every Thursday at 3:00 p.m. 12 to 15 vendors, 90 percent of whom also sell at the Pike Place Market, spread their wares on Pontius Ave. between Thomas and Harrison St. next to Cascade Park. “It’s a work in progress. We are seeing a lot of return customers. The key with a new neighborhood market is that it takes two to three years to train people who live and work in the neighborhood that there is a weekly farmers market within walking distance,” said James Haydu, Marketing Director at the Pike Place Market. Haydu said the Market’s vendors are getting good feedback about the good quality of the produce. The weekly Market has added fresh take-home pizza and handmade pasta at the request of the members of the Cascade Neighborhood Council, Cascade People’s Center, South Lake Union Chamber of Commerce and other community members involved in the planning of the Market. The stakeholders might consider other possible street locations for next year’s market, although any location selected will be in the SLU neighborhood. The Market will end for the season on Thursday, September 24.
