Meet the New Members of the SLU Community Council Board

Molly and Joshua Franklin

Why did you join the board?
We joined the board because someone presently on the board recommended it after realizing our
Molly and Joshua Franklin
interest in the neighborhood, and because we wanted to be a connection between the residents of the neighborhood and the city's influence on the neighborhood.

What is your affiliation with SLU?
We are residents of SLU. We live in the Alcyone Apartments and are part of Union Church which is rooted in SLU.
Joshua works at UW SLU helping a research group organize information and run computer systems.
Molly started southlakeunionfamilies.com and is working with the Cascade People's Center to connect and support families in the neighborhood.

What is your favorite thing to do in SLU?
Cross paths with neighbors in Cascade's playground/P-Patch/ People's Center area.

What is your favorite restaurant in SLU?
Portage Bay, but we're also really excited about trying Flying Fish

Other thoughts you’d like to share?
We have two daughters: Cedar who will be five next month, and Frances who is 20 months.
Also, we're really looking forward to the Farmer's Market this summer.

Mike Kenney

Why did you join the board?
I joined the board because I am a resident of, business owner in, and property owner in South Lake
Mike Kenney
Union and would like to play an active role in the reshaping of this neighborhood.

What is your affiliation with SLU?
I am a resident of SLU, I manage a public parking garage on 9th Ave and Broad St, and I own and operate a small valet company in SLU called K Suite Valet.

What is your favorite thing to do in SLU?
I love walking through South Lake Union. I try to walk, whenever weather permits, to the bank, to QFC, the hardware store, etc. It's so interesting to see all the new buildings and projects progress and to imagine how this is all going to look in 10 years.

What is your favorite restaurant in SLU?
13 Coins is probably my favorite, but to be honest I haven't eaten at many restaurants in the area.

Mike McQuaid

Why did you join the board?
The development of South Lake Union is one of the most important revitalizations of a Seattle neighborhood that I will experience in my lifetime. As someone who grew up in Seattle and has worked
Mike McQuaid
here for the majority of my career, it’s a responsibility to be involved in this vibrant neighborhood as it becomes a new gateway to our city.
As a leader of a non-profit in the community, there is a tremendous opportunity to give back to those that live, work, own property and visit the neighborhood.  It’s our responsibility to serve as a resource to others looking to make a difference here.

What is your affiliation with SLU?
I am a Trustee of The Steamship Virginia V Foundation
and I also live near the neighborhood just off of Westlake on the east side of Queen Anne Hill.

What is your favorite thing to do in SLU?
My wife Shannon and I enjoy walking our dog weekend mornings on the docks of the Center for Wooden Boats.

What is your favorite restaurant in SLU?
Portage Bay Café for breakfast
