Morningside Academy's Dawn Oliver Joins SLUFAN Board
SLUFAN Board
SLUFAN Community Council is pleased to welcome Dawn Oliver as its newest board member. Dawn is Director of Development and Admissions at Morningside Academy, a non-profit school located on Westlake Avenue North in the heart of South Lake Union. Morningside Academy is dedicated to providing a community service to help children and youth to catch up and get ahead. Some students may have a learning disability, attention deficit disorder or other disability. Some may not have any disability. All students have average or above average intelligence. Dr. Kent Johnson, Founder and Executive Director, began the school in Seattle 25 years ago in his living room. Today, the school is under the leadership of both Dr. Johnson and Dr. Joanne Robbins and has evolved to be an on-site laboratory school for Grades 1-9. Another division of Morningside is the teachers' academy with an on-site division that trains teachers each summer and an outreach program that travels to train teachers in other parts of the country and the world. "I'm delighted to join the SLUFAN board," says Dawn. "I feel I'm pursuing two important goals at one time: the goal of helping Morningside to become an integral part of this neighborhood; and the goal of helping SLUFAN represent the entire community - residents and businesses, for-profits and not-for-profits, large entities and smaller ones." The SLUFAN board is committed to reflecting and representing the diversity within the South Lake Union neighborhood. We are particularly interested in improving the diversity of the board by encouraging increased participation by residents of the neighborhood. If you are interested in getting involved or would like to nominate someone for a board position, please let us know by emailing board chair, Ed Geiger, egeiger@chhip.org.
