SLU Neighborhood Plan Update
What's New in SLU
Planners in the City's Department of Planning and Development (DPD) are working with SLUFAN on an update to the South Lake Union neighborhood plan. The update will build on goals for neighborhood character, transportation, parks, and open space. It will be also be adding sustainable development and housing goals. In short, the goal of the plan update is to help South Lake Union be ready for its future as a vibrant, people friendly urban neighborhood. The update process is in full swing. On November 29, there was an Open House to review and discuss the current draft. According to Lish Whitson, Senior Planner at DPD, the comments are being reviewed, and another draft of the plan is being prepared incorporating comments, as appropriate. The revised plan reflecting community input will be circulated again within the community and discussed with both the Cascade Neighborhood Council and the SLUFAN Community Council. Lish explained that the Department will have a draft of implementing goals and policies for the SLU Neighborhood Plan by January 20 as part of the City's annual review of the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Seattle. "As we begin to flesh out specific strategies for meeting the Plan's goals and policies, we look forward to another public meeting in either late February or early March to discuss these ideas with the community," Lish said. "Each step in the planning process brings us closer to a document reflecting the multiple goals of a diverse, growing neighborhood."
