Patient Housing for SCCA
What's New in SLU
The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance currently operates the well-known Pete Gross House, a 70-unit apartment building for patients and families, located on Minor Avenue North, close to the SCCAs outpatient clinic on the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center campus. However, the need for housing has steadily grown as patients travel from all over the Pacific Northwest, as well as the rest of the country, to receive care. Currently the SCCA provides assistance to many of its patients and their families in locating short-term accommodations throughout the city. Visits can vary from a few days to several weeks or even months. Because long-term stays at hotels can be cost prohibitive for many families, there is a high demand for quality, affordable accommodations. To accommodate a growing need for patient housing, the SCCA recently purchased a 14,000-square-foot parcel of land located at the northwest corner of Pontius Avenue North and John Street for a planned 75-room facility. Construction on the project could start as early as 2007.
