Summer Entertainment Abounds in South Lake Union

The following are some of the many opportunities for people to get out and enjoy the South Lake Union neighborhood.

> Free Music Fridays at Cascade Playground

Bring a sack lunch and enjoy free midday entertainment at the Cascade Playground. A variety of performers are scheduled, one appearing each month:

  • July 28 - Jazzukha
    Funk, jazz, pop, and world music

  • August 25 - Marco de Carvalho Trio
    Brazilian jazz

  • September 29 - Talismen
    Worldbeat and reggae music

> Cinema on the Lawn

Outdoor movies are on tap throughout the summer at Cinema on the Lawn, on the grass behind the Discovery Center, 101 Westlake Ave. N.

Films begin 30 minutes after dusk, but you'll want to arrive early to picnic or enjoy the pizza and beer garden. A donation of $5 supports KEXP radio and the Seattle International Film Festival.

> South Lake Union Block Party

Come to the Discovery Center on August 11-12 for live music, beer garden and food, plus a grilling competition and a playground for kids.
