SLUFAN Board to Consider Mercer Corridor Recommendations
What's New in SLU
The Mercer Corridor Stakeholder Committee has compiled a draft of recommendations for the Seattle Department of Transportation, which the Stakeholder Committee plans to submit to SDOT in late July. The SLUFAN Community Council Board will be considering their specific response to the Mercer Corridor Stakeholders Committee proposals at their meeting on July 11, at 4:00 p.m. at the South Lake Union Armory, 860 Terry Avenue N. Community stakeholders are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion. The Mercer Corridor Stakeholder Committees recommendation to SDOT can be viewed by clicking here. The package of recommendations appears to have the strong support of those participating in the committee's meeting. However, in order to assure the broadest level of community input, the recommendations are currently under consideration by the full stakeholders group of the various participating organizations, with each group determining if they can support the entire list of recommendation. Once submitted to the City by the endorsing groups, if the City later determines that one or more of these elements cannot be implemented, it is recommended that SDOT reconvene the Stakeholder Committee to discuss optional treatments or elements that would maintain this broad-based support. The Mercer Corridor Stakeholder Committee is an ad-hoc committee with broad community representation from neighborhoods and associations affected by both the Mercer Corridor and Lowered Aurora Avenue projects. It was formed with the intent of reaching consensus agreement on a unified design concept. The Stakeholder Committee met nine times to set goals for the project, discuss issues that should be addressed by the project, and review technical information from SDOT. In addition, several smaller-group subcommittee meetings were held to discuss issues related to freight, bicycle and pedestrian amenities, and potential improvements west of Fifth Avenue.
