Construction Updates

South Lake Union Streetcar

In September 2006, the South Lake Union Streetcar Project team will begin construction of the streetcar trackway and continue work related City Light (SCL) and Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) infrastructure. Most construction will occur in the Westlake Avenue Corridor (between Stewart Street and Denny Way) and the Fairview Avenue Corridor (between Valley Street and Yale Street).

Weekend closures of the Fairview Avenue North and Valley intersection will occur September 29-31 and October 6-8.

The traffic control plan will include lane restrictions on the Interstate 5 Mercer Exit, Fairview Avenue North and Valley Street. Click here for details. Detour routes will be provided.

Westlake/Mercer Cleanup

On Westlake Avenue N, between Mercer and Valley streets, only two lanes of traffic are open and on-street parking has been removed. Travel along this block is slated to be limited or detoured from mid-July until mid-December, while cleanup of a 1980 fuel spill in city right-of-way is completed. During this time the Land Rover dealership and 76 gas station remain open.
