Street Paving Work to Start Soon
SLUFAN
An SDOT (Seattle Department of Transportation) Construction Alert posted today at SLUFAN's website advises that a steet repaving project is slated to begin next month that will affect the South Lake Union neighborhood. The City's Arterial Asphalt and Concrete Program resurfaces a number of streets each year. This spring and summer three area streets will be included: Denny Way, Dexter Avenue N. and Mercer Street. According to the bulletin, the project will improve the pavement condition. The goal is also to improve accessibility by upgrading existing curb ramps and adding additional ones. The paving will include grinding the top two inches of asphalt surface, repairing the concrete base where needed, and repaving with a new two-inch overlay. Here's what to expect in terms of scheduling: - Dexter Avenue N. from Denny Way to Mercer Street -- late April to early June
- Mercer Street from Queen Anne Avenue N. to 5th Avenue North -- late May to early July
- Denny Way from 1st Avenue N. to 9th Avenue N. -- late June to mid September
The City indicates that even during repaving, all travel lanes will be open during the morning and afternoon peak periods. At other times, traffic may be reduced to one lane in each direction -- and delays should be expected at these times. The City's Construction Alert is up at the SLUFAN website, as part of an expanded section dealing with Traffic Advisories and Construction Notices. Check this page often to see what's been posted.
