Future Plans for Uptown Queen Anne and South Lake Union Neighborhoods
More than 40 stakeholders of the Uptown Queen Anne and South Lake Union neighborhoods worked long hours to reach a consensus on an integrated vision and set of priorities for both urban centers. Over a three month time span, this group met six times representing diverse organizations and interests, including residents, property owners, various non-profit organizations, and major employers to focus on common needs, goals and opportunities. Despite wide-ranging perspectives, the group accomplished its goal of reaching 100% consensus on a set of objectives to ensure that the two urban centers become integrated, dynamic, diverse and sustainable urban communities. - Connect both urban centers
- Build more housing of all types
- Fully integrate transit into communities
- Develop density around public investments
- Make streets a great public amenity for all
- Build shared community facilities
- Commit to environmental sustainability
The next step in the consensus process is for each stakeholder group to take the proposed objectives and priorities back to their constituent groups for consideration and support. Feedback from the various stakeholder groups will be incorporated into a final set of recommendations, which will be presented to the City of Seattle Executive and City Council. The stakeholders recognize that their efforts and recommendations, which cross neighborhood boundaries and include zoning, land use, transportation, infrastructure, public investment and private investment, are a departure from the typical planning process. They believe that the growth slated for these two urban centers, their geographic proximity, the canvas from which they are working and their desire to embrace growth and density calls for a new kind of planning. They hope you will agree, and work with them to do it right.
