MOHAI Moves to South Lake Union Armory

Seattle’s Museum of History and Industry plans to relocate to South Lake Union in the former Naval Reserve Armory. The new South Lake Union location is more accessible and is expected to attract much more foot traffic. Construction should begin in 2009, and the new site could be open by the summer of 2011. MOHAI looks forward to enhancing an already historical neighborhood.

"All of us at the museum are excited about joining the South Lake Union neighborhood.  There are so many great institutions and businesses in the SLU neighborhood, and we are looking forward to joining them.  We feel that the culture and events the museum will bring to SLU will be a nice compliment to the neighborhood."  Leonard Garfield Executive Director MOHAI

MOHAI will invest in transforming the Armory into a dramatic experience, in partnership with the City which will continue to own the structure.  In addition to the move, the museum will display a new selection of local-heritage exhibits and special galleries for traveling historical exhibitions from around the world.
