Cascade People's Center: The Heart of the Neighborhood
The Cascade People’s Center runs on the “people fuel” of a strong volunteer commitment. More than 60 percent of the work at the People’s Center is done by volunteers. Many of the Center’s supporters and volunteers are gathering this Friday, May 9th to party at the second annual fundraising dinner and auction.
Community fundraising efforts are critically important to the Center’s survival. Because of city budget cuts in 2008, the Center lost most of its funding. Without community support in volunteer time and dollars donated there would be no way for the Cascade People’s Center to carry out the programs and services the South Lake Union neighborhood has come to enjoy and expect.
The Center serves the neighborhood with a range of free services including an after-school program for children, yoga classes, cooking classes, clothing drives and many other programs. It provides a welcoming, safe environment for everyone in our community. Thousands of youth, families and individuals count on the Cascade People’s Center to be there for them.
If you can’t attend the party and auction on Friday consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Center. It’s more than a charitable donation; it’s an investment in your community’s health and welfare. The Cascade People’s Center is part of the glue that binds us together as a caring neighborhood.
