Home Modifications for "Aging in Place"

The idea of “Aging in Place” reflects the desire of most seniors to stay in their own homes as long as possible, and to maintain maximum independence.

And for many seniors, home care is an important component of being able to remain in the home setting, so you can say we of Right at Home are experts in this subject! Right at Home recognizes the many factors that come into play in adapting our homes to our needs as we age. So in this and upcoming editions of Caring Right at Home, we’ll take a look at some of the issues involved in the aging in place process.

National Aging in Place Council Offers Free Resource

Aging in Place GuideThis month, we’d like to call your attention to Modifying Your Home Environment to Promote Greater Independence: A Guide to Aging in Place, a free resource from the National Aging in Place Council. The downloadable booklet discusses home modifications you can make to allow your home to be more “senior friendly,” and also discusses finance strategies such as home equity loans and reverse mortgages.

"An overwhelming majority of older Americans want to remain in their homes for as long as possible, but lack awareness of services that make prolonged independent living possible," says Peter Bell, Executive Director of the National Aging in Place Council. The National Aging in Place Council has created a national forum for individuals from the aging, healthcare, financial services, legal, design and building sectors to work together to help meet the needs of our growing aging population who wish to remain living in their housing of choice.

Right at Home is a national organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for those we serve. We fulfill that mission through a dedicated network of locally owned, franchised providers of in-home care and assistance services.
