Show of Force at Legislative Conference
VHCA (2/20/2009)
Over 250 VHCA members visited with their state legislators in Richmond during the 2009 VHCA Winter Legislative Conference held earlier this week. Members discussed the state’s proposed Medicaid long term care budget cuts with their legislators and hosted them at a legislative reception. In addition participants heard presentations on the current state of the Virginia Medicaid program, federal legislative issues by AHCA staff, Virginia’s Wrist Band Initiative, the future of long term care from the perspective of the Older Dominion Partnership and the potential for union organizing activity in long term care facilities if the “Employee Free Choice Act” passes the US Congress. During the conference, the VHCA Board of Directors met and reviewed financial reports, received updates on lobbying efforts in the General Assembly and an update on participation in and effectiveness of the VHCA Survey Management Analysis & Resource Tool (SMART). The Board set its next meeting for April 24th in Roanoke.
