WHO Declares H1N1 (Swine) Flu Pandemic
VHCA (6/12/2009)
The World Health Organization (WHO) has now declared a pandemic, i.e., we’ve moved from Phase 5, which means a global outbreak is imminent, to Phase 6, global outbreak is occurring. It is important to understand that the shift from Phase 5 to Phase 6 means that the pandemic is spreading wider geographically, not that it is any more severe. As the H1N1 virus continues to be a public health concern, please remember to view the latest H1N1 Updates and to reference the H1N1 Flu Awareness page on the VHCA website for updated information. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 13,217 confirmed and probable cases in 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico, over 1,000 hospitalizations and 27 deaths.
