Senate Finance Committee Approves Health Reform Bill
VHCA (10/16/09)
The bill approved by the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday has many provisions that will affect long term care providers. One significant provision deals with Medicare reimbursement. Under the Senate Finance Committee bill, beginning in 2012, the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) market basket will be reduced by an unspecified productivity factor. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates the impact in FY2012 to be $300 million with a ten-year impact of $14.6 billion nationwide. AHCA has advocated that the productivity adjustments be postponed until 2013. A 17-page summary of the bill can be found here.
