Proposed Changes to DDNR Regulations
VHCA (12/23/2009)
The Department of Health published proposed amendments to the Durable Do Not Resuscitate (DDNR) regulations this week in the Virginia Register. The proposal adds several definitions and specifies that DDNR forms may now be obtained from the Office of Emergency Medical Services' website, which will allow downloaded electronic copies of DDNR orders to be used and recognized as valid by healthcare facilities. The purpose of these changes is to (i) allow the use of a less restrictive type of specialized form, (ii) improve the ability to use other valid written orders from the patient's physician, and (iii) allow the use of legible electronic copies of DDNR forms. A public comment period opened on December 21, 2009 and runs through February 19, 2010. Comments may be submitted to: Michael Berg, Compliance Director, Department of Health, 109 Governor Street, Richmond, VA, 23219, by FAX to 804.864.7580, or by email.
