Ensure Your Emergency Management Plans Are In Place
VHCA (5/14/2010)
With the start of hurricane season on June 1 and recent tornado devastation in Oklahoma, we are reminded that disasters and emergencies can happen at anytime. Developing, evaluating and practicing emergency preparedness plans are an essential way to protect residents and staff when unexpected disasters/emergencies occur. Additionally, it is important that nursing home providers be aware of the latest national concepts and practices in emergency planning and response that meet Homeland Security Exercises and Evaluation program standards. To assist members in emergency response and planning, AHCA offers a variety of resources to guide facility staff in preparing brand new emergency plans, evaluating existing plans and conducting in-service staff training for disaster/emergency response. AHCA’s Disaster & Emergency planning resources include: - Emergency Management Guide for Nursing Homes
- Just in Case: Emergency Readiness for Older Adults
- Resident Evacuation Documents (RED Envelopes)
- Dietary Disaster Plan
- Fire, Building and Life Safety Code Documentation
