Delayed Medicaid Remittance Reminder
VHCA (6/11/2010)
In mid-May, The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) notified participating providers, including nursing facilities, via a Medicaid Memo about the upcoming scheduled delay in claims payment. The Virginia Appropriation Act requires that the Medicaid remittance that normally would be paid on Friday, June 25, 2010 will instead be paid on Friday, July 2, 2010. In order to ensure that claims are processed to meet the June 18, 2010 remittance, paper claims must be received by COB on Monday, June 7, 2010 and electronic claims files must be received by Friday, June 11, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. This action affects Medicaid, FAMIS, and Temporary Detention Order (TDO) claim payments for providers who are reimbursed by Virginia Medicaid and TDO. A delay of one remittance payment was implemented in 2009 and will occur each June/July for as long as it is required by the Appropriation Act. This annual recurring delay affects only one remittance cycle each year. No other remittance during the year will be delayed. Therefore, as of the first Friday in July payments will be “caught up” to the normal schedule. All claims will be processed as usual based on the date they are received. Furthermore, providers will be able to verify claims status information via MediCall and ARS without disruption. Access to provider remittance information using MediCall for the remittance dated July 2, 2010 will be available (as usual) on Monday, June 28, 2010. Facilities should plan accordingly and prepare for this delay in claims payment. DMAS will not issue advance pays associated with this delay. Click here for the Medicaid Memo announcing the delay.
