CMS Open Door Forum - MDS 3.0 Implementation

As reported by the American Health Care Association, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is expected to announce plans for MDS 3.0 implementation during its Open Door Forum on October 25, 2007 at 2 pm EDT.  The dial-in information is 800-837-1935 Conference ID: 17467025.  

According to CMS, the development and validation of the MDS 3.0 will result in the first major revision of the MDS since 1995. MDS 3.0 seeks to improve accuracy, use more standardized tools and scales, and meet patient-centered focus goals of the agency. CMS also believes that MDS 3.0 may support the Money Follows the Person demonstration program by collecting data identifying nursing home residents suitable for potential community placement.

CMS plans a second MDS 3.0 Town Hall Meeting for January 2008.
